My journey into education didn’t start in the classroom - my first role in a school was actually as a Marketing Officer at a local independent school. Although I enjoyed the work, it didn’t take too long for me to realise that I was far happier spending time in the classrooms than sitting behind a desk! I found myself jumping at any opportunity to get involved with the children, before eventually waving goodbye to the office and returning to university to complete my Primary PGCE.

I began my teaching career in local primary schools and quickly fell in love with being a class teacher. I was lucky enough to teach across all year groups, from Reception through to Year 6, including mixed-aged classes in small village schools. Those early years taught me so much and really shaped the teacher I am today.

As my experience grew, so did my passion for inclusive education. This led me back to university once again, this time to train as a specialist teacher and assessor, before completing my Master’s in Specific Learning Difficulties.

Balancing further study alongside being a mum to two little ones of my own was no small challenge, but it’s something I remain incredibly proud of, and a journey I hope shows my own children - as well as the pupils I teach -  the value of perseverance, curiosity and lifelong learning.

In my free time you will find my family (dogs, sheep, guinea pigs and hens included!) and I outdoors - walking, climbing, taking part in all sports! My teaching is rooted in experiential, multi-sensory learning, because children learn most effectively when they are actively involved, curious and able to engage through hands-on experiences. Most importantly, my lessons are fun! Children leave my lessons with a smile, as do I!
